MLB Breakdown for Friday 9/18!

MLB Stacks & Plays from CheatSheetPros!

QUICK NEWS AND NOTES:

What a week! I’ve been in training Mon-Thurs so I’ve been away from MLB and I’m ready to dive back in it for this Friday!

PITCHERS I AM LOOKING AT:

I didn’t see much I liked on the “punt” side so today we have to spend some money on pitching. We don’t have to have two of the highest priced pitchers but at least 2 mid-tier is what I’m looking at for my early picks. My favorite two pitchers to run on DK are Glasnow & Pleasac.

TYLER GLASNOW – 5 straight starts over 20 DK points give us a solid 2x floor that we can work with. The matchup is great facing a BAL team that is 2-8 in their L10 games and 20th in our L10 power rankings. BAL has faced Glasnow for 52 team Abs and they are hitting a low .173 with a 31% strikeout rate. Glasnow has given up 7 ER in his last 12.1 innings which is cause for concern but his K upside is saving him with 16 Ks in those same 12.1 innings. If he can limit some ER he should have a big game. He faced this BAL team on 8/25 and smashed them with a 7.0 innings, 2 ER and 13 strikeout performance that came out to 38 DK points!

CHRIS PADDACK – If you look at his DK points he only has 10 and 9 points in his last two starts but was dealing with some kind of an ankle issue. His last start he only went 2.0 innings but managed 4 Ks in those two innings. His last full start was @COL and went 6.0 with 0 ER and 8 Ks. This SEA team tagged him for 6 ER in 5.0 innings on 8/25 so I’m sure he is eager to shut them down. Paddack has a 4.74 ERA but his xFIP is showing 3.57 so he is a much better pitcher than his DK price tag. Last year on the road he allowed a .217 batting average, 1.08 whip with a 9.8 K9 ratio. Paddack gets back on it tonight!

ZACH PLEASAC – Let me start with DET as they are 30th in our L10 power rankings and scoring only 3.7 runs per game over the last 14 days. They are also holding a horribly high strikeout rate at 29% over that same time period. Pleasac just got destroyed @ MIN giving up 5 ER in 7.0 innings but they are a stud team and every good pitcher has a hiccup game. Prior to that start he put up 22, 25 and 28 DK points and those 3 combined for an amazing 19.0 innings and only 2 ERs with 17 strikeouts!

CHRIS BASSITT – Shaking off the rust Bassitt has put together two great starts for 25.5 and 24 DK points and priced at a low 8100 on DK tonight. Those two starts combined for 13.0 innings, only 1 ER and 12 strikeouts. SFG have been “hot” as of late going 7-3 in their L10 games and sitting 12th in the L10 power rankings. Bassitt does have the #1 bullpen behind him so if he can get a lead they should be able to hold it.

STACKS TO CONSIDER:

NEW YORK YANKEES VS. MARTIN PEREZ – Perez has been up and down this year after putting up 19 DK points in his last start then 0, then 19 and then -6. He faced the NYY on 8/17 and lasted 3.0 innings and gave up 3 ER with only 1 K. Apparently someone woke up the NYY while I was away the last 4 days. They are 8-2 in their L10 games and I believe they are on an 8 game win streak. They are #1 in our L10 power rankings and through 50 team Abs vs. Perez they are hitting .420 with 6 home runs. In our last 14 day stats on the MLB Cheat Sheet they are #1 in runs per game (6.6), #1 in OBISO (.630) and #2 in wRC+ (140). NYY for a big win!

KANSAS CITY ROYALS VS. ADRIAN HOUSER – Houser is a decent pitcher but he is allowing a .284 batting average through 46.2 innings this year. KC jumped into the “Hot” category on our cheatsheet and rank 8th in our L10 power rankings and scoring around 5.5 runs per game over the last 14 days. KC is 7-3 in their last 10 games.

TAMPA BAY VS. ALEX COBB – Cobb is coming off giving up 5 ER in 4.0 innings and then 4 ER in 4.0 innings in his prior start. Cobb is holding an ERA of 5.03 and allowing a very high 1.40 whip. I’m looking at the projected starting lineup for Tampa and not sure who 1/3 of these guys are but you can get into this stack fairly cheap in the low 4k range per player.
