UTAH Final Score 34-13 - CheatSheetPros Projected Score 34-17
SOUTH ALABAMA Final Score 38-14 - CheatSheetPros Projected Score 40-21
WASHINGTON Final 40-22 - CheatSheetPros Projected Score 42-23
FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION:
TULANE (+2.5) OVER HOUSTON
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: TULANE 29 vs. HOUSTON 18
Our model has this game with Tulane (-11) so glad to grab the points or take the moneyline. Both of these teams are rated fairly close but the difference for me is Tulane only allowing 268 yards per game on defense while Houston is allowing 443. Tulane has a win against a top 25 team under their belt knocking off Kansas State 17-10. Last week Tulane had a 26-13 FD edge and 451-253 yard edge but lost the game 27-24. Houston beat Rice last week but gave up 426 yards and 22 FDs.
WASHINGTON (-2.5) OVER UCLA
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: UCLA 31 vs. WASHINGTON 26
I want you to know I’m going against my own model for this game. After looking at this game I am backing Washington and Penix on the road at UCLA. There could be some fireworks in this game as both teams average OVER 500 yards of offensive and 40 PPG. Vegas opened the total at 63.5 and now up to 65.5. My argument is that UCLA hasn’t played anyone! They beat Bowling Green (#122), Alabama State (Unranked) and almost lost to South Alabama (#67) 32-31 and then crushed Colorado (#119) Washington is the first decent team they will face. Washington has the same argument for the first two games (Kent State & Portland State) but then they beat Michigan State (#37) and rolled Stanford (#80) [One of our plays last week!] so a slightly tougher schedule. I think my model is inflated on UCLA due to the weak teams they have faced.
SATURDAYS GAMES:
ILLINOIS (+7) OVER WISCONSIN
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: ILLINOIS 26 vs. WISCONSIN 21
Line opened at Wisconsin -10 and now down to -7. Wisconsin was killed by Ohio State last week giving up a 28-11 FD edge and 539-296 yard edge losing 52-21. Illinois played Virginia and they closed as a short (-4) favorite in that game. Illinois took an 18-13 FD and 394-222 total yard edge and even with 4 turnovers they won 24-3. Illinois only allowing 274 yards per game on defense. Grab the points!
LOUISVILLE (-15.5) OVER BOSTON COLLEGE
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: LOUISVILLE 30 vs. BOSTON COLLEGE 16
This might be a game where I attack the first half line as it should open around -8 or -9 and I could easily see a 10 point lead at the half. Both teams have played Florida State so we have a common opponent to analyze. Louisville played a tight game ultimately losing 35-31 but held a 25-21 FD edge and 495-455 yard edge. Boston College lost 44-14 and only put up 235 total yards while allowing 530 to FSU. Louisville should do the same as our model has this with a 461-258 yard edge.
MINNESOTA (-12) OVER PURDUE
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: MINNESOTA 36 vs. PURDUE 13
Minnesota only allowing 185 yards per game on defense but the first 3 games were weak opponents before facing Michigan State last week. Against Michigan State they won 34-7 with a 32-14 FD edge and 508-240 yard edge and Michigan State is equivalent with Purdue. Purdue squeaked by Florida Atlantic last week 28-26 but check giving up a 419-354 yard edge to the 84th ranked Florida team. Our model has Minnesota with a 481-273 yard edge, lay the points!
LSU (-9) OVER AUBURN
CHEATSHEETPROS MODEL: LSU 29 vs. AUBURN 13
I had to double take this line opening at -7 and now only -9. Our model has this between -14 and -16 for LSU. LSU ranks 23rd on offense and 7th on defense while Auburn is 97th on offense and 55th on defense. LSU putting up 130 more offensive yards per game and allowing 115 less on defense. Our model projects this game with a 449 vs. 276 yard edge in favorite of LSU. Auburn played a not great MU team last week and won 17-14 in OT but check the 15-14 FD and a 217-312 yard deficit. They only managed 217 total yards? 82 rushing yards and 135 passing yards, Wow! LSU ranks better on defense than MU so this could be ugly! Auburn also played Penn State who is fairly close to the caliper of team as LSU and got crushed 41-12 with 4 turnovers and sacked 6 times. Auburn also gave up 477 yards. LSU has only played 2 decent teams. They lost the opener to FSU 24-23 and they Miss State who they beat 31-16. LSU rolls in this spot!
OTHER GAMES TO CONSIDER: Pittsburgh, James Madison, Fresno State, USC, Georgia and Air Force.
